Zero-Waste Grandma's Brown Soap

| /

  • This zero-waste soap bar is great for the kitchen sink and made with leftover soap shreds, tea tree essential oil and sweet orange oil. Mild and deodorizing, it's the perfect clean up for when you're cooking fragrant seafood or garlic, or anytime you need a deodorizing hand scrub!

Years ago, our great grandmothers made their own soap, (along with most everything else) and it usually came out brown. It was a necessary chore to make soap, and it was rough, slightly caustic, and essential.

They used the soap for everything from washing clothes to cleaning little faces. In those days, very little went to waste.

I have a tough time throwing (perfectly fine) things away, too- and this lets me recycle all my leftover soap shreds. My own version of Grandma's Brown Soap!

So this is how it works: All of my olive oil soaps are planed.
Planed means I run the edges over a small wire that takes off the sharp edges. This makes it feel nicer in your hands while you're using it.  But what to do with all those soap shreds? I can't bring myself to throw them away, so I decided to up-cycle them into something new!

All the leftover soap shreds are added to fresh oils, and this batter is poured into a mold and left over night in a warm oven. This 'warm-processing' method produces very mild, lather rich soap.

These soaps have some scrub to them, and may smell slightly different from batch to batch, depending on what soap shreds I have.
But just like grandma's soap, it'll get the job done. The big difference is, your skin's gonna love this extremely mild version!

Great Product

I love this soap. This is the second time I’ve ordered it. It is gentle on my hands. They are no longer dry from frequent hand washing.

Great Kitchen Hand Soap

Valerie has found the best use for the soap odds and ends from making all her delightful scented soap bars - a wonderfully scented, slightly exfoliating brown bar of soap for hand washing in the kitchen. Bonus is you have no waste either..no bottle to throw out. It's all I use in the kitchen, now. Another bonus - no dry hands from repeatedly washing- because olive oil is one of the ingredients.

Creamy Awesomeness

This soap is great! I use it at the kitchen sink and it is so creamy! It takes the food smells away from my hands very effectively! Love it!

Life Saver

This soap has saved my hurting hands. With the coronavirus, I've been washing my hands multiple times a day and my hands have been cracking and bleeding. I had been using liquid hand soap from Wal-mart & I dreaded using it because with every wash my hands hurt more and more. But this soap has helped my poor hands to feel better. It's moisturizing and soothing. I even bought a second bar to put in my bathroom so I won't have to use liquid soap at all.
