- 7/1/20 Due to Covid-19, Basic soap making classes will be suspended until further notice.
Learn basic soap making in my home workshop!
Imagine formulating your own, natural soap, made from the skin-loving oils of your own choosing.
My workshop is located in Medford, New York. Take my soap class and learn how, without spending tons of time researching, followed by spending plenty of cash on trial and error.
With nine years of experience, I've already done all that, and I'll be by your side, showing you how, step by step.
This small, 4-student class is designed to provide plenty of personal attention. Together we'll unpack everything you need to know about the cold-process method of soapmaking, so you feel comfortable trying out your new skill at home.
As an added bonus, soap students will enjoy 20% off anything in the soap shop on the day of class!
- A shoe box (or similar) + two-three dish towels.
You'll be going home with thick, but wet soap batter in the mold and the towels help stabilize the mold within the box, while keeping the batter warm.
A lap top is helpful when we learn how to use the online lye calculator, but it's not necessary.
I'll provide safety goggles and latex gloves in sizes medium and large. I also keep medium vinyl gloves on hand, but if you'd prefer to bring your own, feel free to do so.
- Hands on learning in a small, friendly environment.
I provide all soap-making tools and materials. You'll be taking home your own soap loaf (it makes 6 bars) and the 19 oz soap mold.
I'll teach you how to use a free online lye calculator, so you can formulate your own soap recipes at home.
If desired, you'll choose a scent, and a color. Or, you can choose to keep your soap au natural, and fragrance free.
You'll also receive a folder filled with information on lye safety, soap-making history, properties of oils & fats, trouble-shooting tips, curing & storage information, basic supplies needed, buying sites and more!
It's everything I think is important, summarized from the overwhelming sea of information floating around the inter-webs. Because let's face it, not all information you get on the internet is good information.
When you purchase a class, you'll receive an email with all the information you'll need. PLEASE make sure to check off the box that allows me to send you emails! After you receive your first email, you can always hit that reply button if you have questions for me.
- Your payment is your registration and is non-refundable.
I am unable to hold spots without prepayment. In an effort to give the personal attention I think soap-making calls for, I prefer to keep the classes very small.
By purchasing a class, you are saying that you have read this entire page, including the refund policies below. I am located in Medford New York.
The class will take place in my home soap studio, and shortly after your purchase, you'll receive an email with more details.
MINIMUM AGE: This basic soap making class uses caustic lye and is designed for adults, over the age of 16. If you feel your teen is mature enough to attend a class (with or without you) please discuss it with me before purchasing.
WHAT NOT TO BRING: Please don't show up with additional people. This includes spouses, friends, or small children. I have a small studio and we'll be working with lye. Unexpected guests pose a safety hazard.
REFUND POLICY: All payments are non-refundable.
If you need to cancel or change your class date, kindly give 24-hour notice.
I understand that sometimes life happens, and will offer class credit as long as sufficient notice is given. No-Call/No-Shows will NOT be refunded, nor will class credit be given.
A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into to bringing you the most informative class possible. Please be considerate.
MY RIGHT TO CANCEL: In the case where enrollment is below the studio minimum of 2 students, the teacher has the right to cancel on the Thursday prior to the class. If a class is cancelled you will be contacted using the phone number and/or e-mail address that you provided upon purchase.
You'll either choose another date for class, or keep the credit on file for the future. The credit never expires. I also maintain the right to cancel any person(s) due to abusive behavior. All this being said, I rarely need to cancel a class! It's usually a very enjoyable Saturday :)
INCLEMENT WEATHER: If a class is cancelled due to snow, you will choose another date that works for you.
