- Have you ever wanted to learn how to make soap, but don't know where to begin?
Imagine formulating natural soap, made from skin-loving oils, with ingredients you choose.
Take my class and learn how, without spending tons of time researching, followed by spending plenty of cash on trial and error.
With over eight years of experience, I've done all of that, and I'll be right by your side, showing you how, step by step.
This small, 4 student class is designed to provide plenty of personal attention. Together we'll unpack everything you need to know about the cold-process method of soapmaking, so you feel comfortable trying out your new skill at home. As and added bonus, soap students will enjoy 20% off anything in the soap shop on the day of class!
- A shoe box (or similar) + two dish towels.
You'll be going home with wet soap batter in the mold and the towels help stabilize the mold within the box, while keeping the batter warm.
A lap top is helpful when we learn how to use the online lye calculator, but it's not necessary.
I'll provide safety goggles and gloves in sizes medium and large, but if you’re allergic to latex, please bring your own.
- Hands on learning in a small, friendly environment.
I provide all soap-making tools and materials, plus water & snacks.
You'll be taking home your own soap loaf (it makes 6 bars) and the 19 oz soap mold.
I'll teach you how to use a free online lye calculator, so you can formulate your own soap recipes at home.
If desired, you'll choose a scent, a color and an exfoliant.
I'll offer three fragrances to choose from, depending on availability, and either ground oatmeal or crushed walnut shell.
Or you can leave your soap uncolored and fragrance free.
You'll also receive a folder filled with information on lye safety, soap-making history, properties of oils & fats, two additional recipes to try, trouble-shooting tips, curing & storage information, basic supplies needed, information resources, buying sites and more!
It's 10 pages of information I created myself.
When you purchase a class, you'll receive an email with all the information you'll need. And you can always hit that reply button if you have questions for me.
- Your payment is your registration and is non-refundable.
I am unable to hold spots without prepayment. To give the personal attention I think soap making calls for, I prefer to keep the classes very small.
A tremendous amount of time and energy goes into each class. Last minute cancelations, and no-shows greatly impact the schedule.
By purchasing a class, you are saying that you have read this entire page, including the refund policy's below. I am located in Medford New York.
The class will take place in my home soap studio, and you'll receive an email with more details.
MINIMUM AGE: This basic soap making class uses caustic lye and is designed for adults, over the age of 16. If you feel your child is mature enough to attend a class (with or without you) please discuss it with me before purchasing.
WHAT NOT TO BRING: Please don't show up with additional people. This includes spouses, babies or small children. I have a small studio and unexpected guests often cause distractions that are not appreciated by paying customers.
REFUND POLICY: All payments are non-refundable.
I understand that sometimes life happens, and do offer partial class credit depending on how much notice you give me. Please be considerate.
I will not run a class unless there are at least 2 students, so again, cancellations impact others as well. No-call, no-shows will not be refunded, nor will any credit be given.
IF I HAVE TO CANCEL: In the case where enrollment is below the studio minimum of 2 students, the teacher has the right to cancel on the Thursday prior to the class. If a class is cancelled you will be contacted using the phone number and/or e-mail address that you provided upon purchase. You will have a choice of a full refund or a credit for a future soap making class.
