She wore her father down with arguments on why she could only be herself. His tips were no help at all, and he only hoped Zelda's behavior wouldn't rub off on Rose.
In the heat of August in 1923, construction was finally finished on a new boardwalk on Coney Island. Zelda had heard that it was quite lively. Her family had cousins visiting from Maine, and decided to take them to go see it. It was always a bit cooler by the shore, after all.
She loves her father, very much in fact, but she can't change who she is for anyone. Trying is too exhausting. She likes herself just fine. And she likes Clarence, too. And who ever said vanilla was boring?

I loved Zelda’s story. Just seeing the words “Coney Island” brought back so many memories . Thank you for that. And… I LOVE VANILLA!!

Did you know that dating, as we think of it, didn't really exist until the 1920's? Up until that time, a young man would be chosen by the family to court, or "come calling" on the young lady.

Olive, pine or emerald. The shade doesn't matter much. Olivia's favorite color has always been green.
She grew up in the Bronx, NY, where there were only small swatches of it to be seen, in too few months of the year. Except when she worked with her father.
